Today’s Wedding Planning Wednesday is all about Wedding Myths, debunking cost saving wedding myths to be exact! Lately we’ve heard way too many of these and quite honestly, we have NO idea where they came from. So it’s time to get rid of these myths once and for all, to give you a much better planning experience!
Myth #1: Getting married on any day but Saturday results in a significant cost savings.
While you may be able to obtain your venue at a cheaper rate on an “off-peak” date, it will not be significant enough to outweigh the inconvenience you will bring to your guests. If you are getting your food and drink from your venue, the cost of these items plus the cost of service will remain the same.
Additionally, from a vendor perspective, your wedding vendors are going to work just as hard if your wedding is on a Friday or a Sunday. The amount of work the vendor puts in no matter the service they provide- DJ, wedding cake, photography, etc. will not lessen based on the day you pick to host your wedding. Some vendors who aren’t already booked fully for that weekend may offer a discount. But don’t expect to get cheaper prices if your wedding is on a day other than Saturday.
Myth 2: The use of silk flowers will save me considerable money!
Wow, this is one we heard a lot in 2014 and thankfully we were able to convince all of our brides that this was a bad decision. Why? First of all good quality silk flowers cost SO much! And they always LOOK like silk so what’s even the point?! It doesn’t matter how good you are at arranging flowers, those plastic “veins” on the flowers are a dead giveaway. Plus what are you going to do with a bunch of silk flowers after the wedding anyway?!
Myth #3: I don’t need to hire a professional. My mom/dad/aunt/sister/cousin can do that for me!
No no no! First, you want your guests and family members to ENJOY your wedding day. Assigning them a task not only forces their attention from the joy of their wedding but also brings unnecessary stress their way. Additionally, just because your friend’s Instagram account is full of beautiful nature shots doesn’t mean your wedding pictures will yield the same results. An experienced wedding photographer knows how to shoot a mix of action shots (getting ready, first dance, cake cutting) while also capturing all the must-have family and bridal party photos. The same goes for all other categories, like flowers and music. Look for local pros in your area, and if money is a concern, just be open and honest about your budget from the start.
Myth #4: I want a grand cake but cannot afford it, I’ll just add fake layers because they are cheaper!
Everyone wants a beautiful cake but size doesn’t dictate beauty or flavor! Always consider the number of your guests that will actually eat the cake and balance this with the other dessert options you are planning on serving. Adding fake layers to a cake is not always a cheaper option because fake layers still require icing, time and talent.
We love debunking myths! Happy Wednesday!
